It was a case of survival of the fittest last weekend at the local sports grounds in Ga Makausi when eight teams struggled to earn a place in the upcoming finals. At stake is R10 000 which will see the overall winner smiling all the way to the bank with R5000 as first prize whilst the runners-up will take home R3000. The losing semi-finalists will each receive R500 while the four losing quarter-finalists will receive an appearance fee of R200 each.
Organised by the local community, Papadi Integrated Marketing with Total supplying the financial back-up, the tournament which celebrate its fifth year enjoys full support from the local football fanatics and also provides the local hawkers with a platform to generate more cash for their families by selling food at the tournament.
Apart from the raw talent and football skill, which will be on display throughout the tournament, organizers have also promised plenty of entertainment from local entertainers. Football legends such as Teenage Dladla, Joseph "Skheshe" Mkhonza and Isaac "Shakes" Khungoane will also grace the tournament.
The draw for the tournament will be held on Friday, November 6 at Ga-Makausi Crèche wherein the representatives of the eight clubs are expected to be available. Hot favourites, Basset are among the eight clubs, which have qualified for the event. The rest of the qualified clubs are Diboba, A1 Club, Dynamos, Arrows, United, Mad Blues and Real Madrid.
